Software
Want to edit your pictures or clean up your EVP on your computer, but can't afford the software? Or maybe you just want to type up your Investigation Report? Well, you're in luck. The following programs are available for free from the Internet.
I've only included software here that has a good reputation and has some support infrastructure available on the Web. This list isn't complete yet - if you'd like to submit a link to other software, send e-mail to the Webmaster.
Photo Software
- The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) - Available for Unix, Mac OS X and Windows.
- Google's Picasa is a suite of photo software and services. Specifics follow.
- The Picasa PC program is a free download that will run on a Windows PC that meets the following System Requirements. It's no replacement for PhotoShop or the GIMP, but offers a decent feature set for free software.
- There is also a Linux version of Picasa available.
- As part of the whole set of Picasa services, you can also use Picasa Web Albums to store and host your pictures online in much the same way as Flickr or PhotoBucket. Web Albums require a Google Account, which are free if you don't already have one. They can be created and maintained from both Windows PCs and Macs. Photo uploads are available through your web browser, through the Picasa program itself on Windows PCs, and on MacOSX v10.4 or later using the Mac Uploader. NOTE: The Mac Uploader really needs a G4 or later processor to be useful (I've tried it on several models of Mac.)
Audio Software
- Audacity - Available for Unix, Mac OS 9 and X, and Windows.
General Purpose Software
- OpenOffice - A free Office Productivity Suite that's comparable to Microsoft Office. Available for various flavors of Unix, Mac OS X and Windows.
Important Note! I strongly recommend reading the System Requirements and carefully choosing which version you want before you download OpenOffice!
- NeoOffice is a variant of OpenOffice, designed specifically for MacOSX.
